Seoul: Samsung Electronics Co. reported a significant increase in air conditioner sales, with over 10,000 units sold each day over the past week as consumers prepare for an anticipated hot summer. From Monday to Friday, daily sales exceeded the 10,000 mark, representing more than a 30 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
According to Yonhap News Agency, last year's comparable sales milestone was not reached until mid-June, highlighting this year's earlier surge in demand due to forecasts predicting hotter and longer summer months. Samsung's air conditioner model featuring AI functions accounted for over 80 percent of total sales, showcasing the growing consumer interest in smart technology.
To meet the increased demand, Samsung commenced full operation of its air conditioner production lines nearly 10 days earlier than the previous year. The company also mobilized its AC installation task force to ensure timely service for consumers.
Meanwhile, LG Electronics Inc. experienced a 45 percent year-on-year increase in cumulative sales of its Whisen standing air conditioner models, which also incorporate AI technology, during the January-April period. The company noted a significant rise in subscriptions for its air conditioners, which include maintenance and filter replacement services, more than doubling from a year earlier.
