Seoul: Acting President Choi Sang-mok announced that the successful hosting of the forthcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders' meeting will serve as a crucial platform for demonstrating South Korea's resilience amidst increasing global uncertainties.
According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korea is poised to host the APEC summit in November in Gyeongju, a southeastern city in the country. This significant event will convene leaders and top representatives from the 21 APEC member states, including the United States and China.
Choi highlighted the ongoing interest in the 2025 APEC meeting despite various uncertainties at both domestic and international levels, such as internal political challenges and the transition to a new administration in the United States. He made these remarks during the fifth APEC preparatory meeting, stressing that the summit offers a vital chance to showcase South Korea's political and economic systems' return to normalcy and resilience following the political upheaval caused by the short-lived martial law imposed by now-impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol last month.
He underscored the importance of successful hosting, which necessitates close cooperation and unified efforts from both governmental and private sectors. Choi urged all parties to fully commit to their roles to ensure the event's success.
Choi also called for comprehensive preparations to guarantee that the APEC meeting would invigorate the regional economy and aid local businesses in establishing international networks.
