Anmyeon island: Army special operations troops conducted combined drills with their U.S. counterparts this week to enhance their maritime infiltration capabilities in conjunction with a major summertime exercise, the Army said Thursday. The three-day exercise, which concluded Wednesday, took place around Anmyeon Island, some 120 kilometers southwest of Seoul.
According to Yonhap News Agency, some 40 troops from both sides took part in the drills, which also mobilized two U.S. F-16 fighter jets and two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters. The latest drills were held in conjunction with the allies' annual Ulchi Freedom Shield exercise, which concluded Thursday after an 11-day run.
