Bears’ Pitcher Zach Logue Secures 10th Win with Team Effort

Seoul: By tossing eight scoreless innings in a 7-0 victory over the Hanwha Eagles at home Thursday, Doosan Bears left-hander Zach Logue became his team’s first 10-game winner of the season. Wins may be an individual statistic for pitchers on paper, but Logue insisted it has taken a total team effort for him to get to the mini milestone.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Logue expressed his gratitude towards his teammates, saying, “It’s really a team stat. Without the offense scoring runs and the defense making plays behind me, it doesn’t happen.” After throwing his season-high 107 pitches and striking out nine at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul, Logue now holds a 10-8 record with a 2.83 ERA. His teammates congratulated him by dousing him with water and sports drinks, a gesture he accepted with good humor.

Logue’s recent win marks his first since August 29, following a perfect 4-0 streak in August. Despite pitching well, he faced challenges in his first three September starts. Notably, on September 12, Logue was poised for a win against the Kia Tigers, only for the Bears to concede two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, resulting in a 5-4 loss.

As the regular season approaches its end, Logue did not feel pressured to achieve double-digit wins. Instead, he focused on attacking during the game and managed to secure his 10th win. With the Bears’ regular-season finale scheduled for next Tuesday, this might have been Logue’s final start in his first KBO season. The former big leaguer from the United States reflected positively on his season, acknowledging that no other Bears pitcher has reached 10 wins, highlighting the team’s challenging season.

The Bears will miss the postseason for the first time since 2022, currently holding a ninth-place standing at 59-75-6. Logue commented on the team’s performance, saying, “I think overall, the season was really good personally. I wish as a team we could have played in the first half like we did in the second half but it was a lot of fun all around.”

Looking ahead, Logue remains uncertain about his future but remains optimistic about his experience in the KBO. “We’ll just take it one day at a time. We’ll see what next year brings. But I’m overall really happy with how the season went here,” he concluded.
