Seoul: Rose, a prominent member of the K-pop sensation BLACKPINK, secured two prestigious awards, including Song of the Year, at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards held at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Rose was awarded for her collaboration single "APT." with global pop icon Bruno Mars. She also accepted the Best Group award on behalf of BLACKPINK, marking the first time a K-pop artist has been recognized in a main category. This win for Best Group is the quartet's second, following their 2023 victory. Although Mars could not attend the ceremony, Rose, dressed in a yellow sequined fringe dress, graciously accepted the Song of the Year award for both of them.
In her acceptance speech, Rose expressed disbelief and gratitude, especially towards Bruno Mars for his support. She dedicated the award to her younger self and to all those who have supported her artistic journey. She extended her thanks to Teddy, the chief producer at her agency, and her BLACKPINK members, addressing them warmly in Korean.
The award for Best K-Pop, which Rose was also nominated for, was claimed by her fellow BLACKPINK member Lisa for the collaboration "Born Again" with Doja Cat and Raye. This gave BLACKPINK a total of three awards for the night, with this being Lisa's second consecutive and third overall win in the category.
Additionally, Hybe's multinational girl group Katseye won MTV Push Performance of the Year for their second single, "Touch," recognized through the MTV Push campaign. Katseye performed "Gnarly" and "Gabriela" during the pre-show and expressed their gratitude in English, reflecting on their journey and the significance of the award.
The Video of the Year, the top honor of the VMAs, was awarded to pop star Ariana Grande for "Brighter Days Ahead." Lady Gaga emerged as the night's biggest winner, securing four awards, including Artist of the Year and Best Collaboration. Presenters for the Best Album category included Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami, known for their performances in Netflix's animated film "KPop Demon Hunters."
