Body of Missing Crewman Found 66 Days After Fishing Boat Sinking

Yeosu: The body of a missing crew member aboard a fishing vessel that sank in February was found Wednesday, the Coast Guard said. The discovery comes 66 days after the tragic incident, which occurred in waters near Yeosu, 316 kilometers south of Seoul.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the body belonged to one of the five crew members who went missing after their 139-ton vessel sank on February 9. While the identity of the body has yet to be confirmed, the Yeosu Coast Guard reported that rescue divers found the remains in the steering room of the vessel, submerged 82.8 meters underwater.

The Coast Guard has announced plans to recover the body and transfer it to a local hospital for identification and further examination. The ill-fated ship had a total of 14 people onboard at the time of the sinking, including eight South Koreans, three Vietnamese, and three Indonesians. Four individuals were rescued, five were confirmed dead, and five others remained missing.
