Boeing Korea Chief Advocates for Aerospace Tariff Exemption in Trade Negotiations

Seoul: Boeing Korea President Will Shaffer has voiced his hope for aerospace products to be exempted from U.S. tariffs in an ongoing trade agreement negotiation between South Korea and the United States. Shaffer shared his views during a media event in Seoul celebrating the 75th anniversary of Boeing Korea's establishment, highlighting the company's long-standing efforts to maintain aerospace as tariff-free under a U.S. law from 1979.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Shaffer mentioned that the specifics of the trade deal are still being finalized and expressed his aspirations for a similar aerospace carve-out provision seen in agreements with Japan and Europe. He emphasized the importance of maintaining tariff-free trade in aerospace to support Boeing's global customer base and supply chain.

Shaffer, who has experience as a U.S. Navy aviator, reiterated Boeing's commitment to ensuring that the aerospace sector remains "tariff free." This commitment, he noted, is crucial for the company to continue supporting its global customers and to procure from its worldwide suppliers.
