Bridge Collapse at Expressway Site in Anseong Results in 4 Fatalities and 6 Injuries

Anseong: A bridge collapse at an expressway construction site in Anseong on Tuesday resulted in the deaths of four workers and injuries to six others. The incident took place around 9:50 a.m. during construction on a section of the Seoul-Sejong expressway, approximately 65 kilometers south of Seoul.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the collapse occurred when several slabs placed on a pier fell to the ground, affecting 10 workers at the site. Among these workers, four were killed, five suffered serious injuries, and one sustained minor injuries. Fire authorities reported that one of the deceased was recovered from the rubble at approximately 2:20 p.m., at which point rescue operations were concluded.

Hyundai Engineering, the builder responsible for the site, expressed regret for the fatalities and injuries. The company stated, "We are actively cooperating with the relevant authorities to ensure a swift site recovery and a thorough investigation into the exact cause of the accident."

In response to the incident, the National Fire Agency issued an order to mobilize firefighters to search for individuals missing in the collapse. Additionally, Acting President Choi Sang-mok provided emergency instructions to deploy all available resources and personnel to aid in the rescue efforts.
