Seoul: The number of ChatGPT users in South Korea exceeded 20 million for the first time last month, as revealed by recent data.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the monthly active users (MAUs) of ChatGPT, a generative artificial intelligence (AI) service created by OpenAI, reached a record 20.31 million in August. This marks a significant increase from 4.07 million users recorded in the same month the previous year, as reported by industry tracker Wiseapp Retail.
The data indicates that the user base now accounts for about 40 percent of South Korea's 50.12 million smartphone users. When broken down by gender, the distribution was nearly equal, with 50.1 percent of users being men and 49.9 percent women.
Additionally, the statistics highlight that nearly 70 percent of the users were individuals in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, illustrating the wide-reaching appeal of the AI service across different age groups in the country.
