CNN: Chinese President Preparing to Visit N. Korea Soon

CNN says Chinese President Xi Jinping is preparing to visit Pyongyang soon.

An official, who asked to remain anonymous, told CNN on Wednesday that Xi’s trip will come soon, possibly after U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un hold their summit, which is slated to take place at the end of May or early June.

Pyongyang-Beijing relations have warmed in the past month following a surprise visit by Kim to Beijing for a meeting with Xi late last month.

Last week, China sent Song Tao, a high-ranking official who heads the Chinese Communist Party’s International Liaison Department, and a group of Chinese performers to the North.

If Xi travels to the reclusive state, it will be his first North Korea visit since he took office in December 2012.
