Seoul: Veteran comedian Lee Kyung-kyu, who was booked for driving under the influence of drugs in June, has been indicted for a summary trial, judicial officials reported on Wednesday. Lee, known for his longstanding career in the entertainment industry, faces charges related to the violation of the Road Traffic Act.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors Office filed a summary indictment against Lee on Tuesday, seeking a fine of 2 million won (US$1,400). This legal move involves a request for the court to issue a summary order, imposing a fine or penalty through a written hearing without necessitating a formal trial, typically reserved for minor offenses.
The incident in question occurred on June 8 in southern Seoul. Lee was accused of driving another individual's vehicle-identical in model to his own-under the influence of medication prescribed for panic disorder. This mix-up happened after a valet mistakenly handed him the wrong car.
