Seoul: As his first Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) season progresses, Doosan Bears rookie third baseman Park Jun-soon is making a name for himself with his impressive performances at the plate and on defense. In a recent game against the Samsung Lions, Park played a pivotal role in the Bears' 5-0 victory, showcasing his growing confidence and skill both offensively and defensively.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Park drove in the first run of the game with a single in the bottom of the fourth inning, marking only the Bears' third hit off Samsung Lions' starter Gerson Garabito. His timely hit was followed by a significant defensive play in the fifth inning, where Park made a diving catch to thwart a bases-loaded opportunity for the Lions. This defensive stop was crucial in maintaining the Bears' lead.
Park's recent performances have been noteworthy, as he has been batting a perfect 1.000 with runners in scoring position over his last five games. For the season, Park boasts a .277 batting average with two home runs and five RBIs in 32 games. Over his past ten games, his batting average has improved to .346, solidifying his position as the Bears' primary third baseman.
Despite being only 18 years old and the sixth overall pick in last year's KBO draft, Park did not make his season debut until April 13. His playing time was initially limited, but following managerial changes in June, Park was given more opportunities to prove himself on the field. Since then, he has started 17 of the Bears' last 19 games, displaying the athleticism that made him a highly sought-after prospect.
While Park has committed six errors at third base, his potential and versatility have been evident. His diving catch on a hard-hit grounder by Kim Seong-yoon in the recent win against the Lions was a game-changing play that prevented a potential momentum shift in favor of the Lions.
Park acknowledges that he is still improving his defensive skills but credits his offensive success with boosting his confidence in the field. Determined not to squander the opportunity he has been given, Park expressed his commitment to performing at his best in every moment.
