Seoul: A hearing on whether to issue an arrest warrant for former President Yoon Suk Yeol regarding his martial law bid is set to take place this week, as announced by a court on Monday. The Seoul Central District Court has scheduled the hearing for 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday, following a request made by special counsel Cho Eun-suk the previous day.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Cho's team is pursuing the former president's arrest on charges tied to his martial law declaration in December. This includes allegations that Yoon ordered the Presidential Security Service to prevent his detention by investigators in January. Additionally, Yoon is accused of infringing on the rights of Cabinet members by summoning only select individuals to a meeting prior to his martial law declaration on December 3. He is also charged with instructing his aides to draft a secondary document pertaining to the declaration days after the initial event.
It remains uncertain whether Yoon will attend the hearing. Should the court decide to issue the warrant, it would mark the second occasion on which the former president is taken into custody, with the first instance occurring in January while he was still in office.
