Seoul: Daegu FC forward Cesinha has been named the South Korean football league's top player for September.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Korea Professional Football League (K League) announced that Cesinha emerged victorious over three other contenders in the voting for the Player of the Month award for September.
The Brazilian forward is the fourth consecutive foreign player to achieve this honor, following in the footsteps of Jesse Lingard from FC Seoul, Andrea Compagno from Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, and Pablo Sabbag from Suwon FC. The selection process involved votes from the K League's technical study group, which accounted for 60 percent of the total, fan votes on the K League website contributing 25 percent, and players of EA Sports FC Online, the league's official video game partner, accounting for the remaining 15 percent.
Gangwon FC midfielder Lee You-hyeon led the technical study group's voting; however, Cesinha outperformed all candidates in the other two voting categories, culminating in a total of 42.22 voting points. In September, Cesinha contributed significantly to Daegu FC's performance, recording a goal and three assists across three matches, including two assists in their 2-1 victory over Gimcheon Sangmu FC on Sept. 14.
For the season, Cesinha has scored 11 goals and provided a league-leading 11 assists. He is the only player to have achieved double figures in both categories. This latest accolade marks Cesinha's seventh Player of the Month award, setting a new record in K League history.
