Kuala lumpur: The defense chiefs of South Korea and Japan gathered in Malaysia to emphasize the significance of trilateral security cooperation with the United States, particularly in response to evolving North Korean nuclear and missile threats, as reported by the defense ministry.
According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korea's Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back engaged in discussions with Japan's newly appointed Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi during the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Defense Ministers' Meeting-Plus held in Kuala Lumpur. During the meeting, Ahn extended his congratulations to Koizumi on his new role and underscored the necessity of bilateral coordination and cooperation to effectively navigate geopolitical uncertainties and security challenges confronting both nations.
Koizumi acknowledged South Korea as a crucial neighboring country and partner in addressing the myriad tasks facing the international community. Both ministers concurred on the importance of advancing their bilateral defense ties in a manner that is forward-looking, as stated by the ministry.
