Seoul: Deputy Prime Minister Lee Ju-ho on Wednesday delivered to President Lee Jae-myung the intention of all Cabinet members to resign, his office said. The deputy prime minister, who served as acting president until Lee's election was certified earlier in the day, expressed the intention in a phone call, according to the office.
According to Yonhap News Agency, all the outgoing Cabinet members submitted their resignations to the Ministry of Personnel Management on Monday, a day before the election. The new president is expected to decide whether to accept the resignations after the letters are delivered to him.
There is speculation he will accept only a portion of them in order to minimize disruptions to state affairs until his own Cabinet launches, as he took office immediately without a transition period following an election called early to pick a successor to ousted former President Yoon Suk Yeol. Without the outgoing ministers, it would be difficult to meet the quorum to hold a Cabinet meeting, which is a majority of the 21 members.
