DP’s Lee Urges ‘Judgment of Insurrection Forces,’ Promises Policies to Boost Stock Market

Seoul: With just 10 days remaining until the presidential election, Democratic Party (DP) candidate Lee Jae-myung on Saturday intensified his campaign in the pivotal greater Seoul region, urging voters to hold the "insurrection forces" accountable at the ballot box. "This election is a historic event that will determine whether we hold the forces behind the insurrection accountable or allow them to come back and let our nation fall into permanent decline," Lee said in a street speech in Anyang, just south of Seoul.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee targeted the conservative People Power Party (PPP), the party of former President Yoon Suk Yeol, who was ousted following his declaration of martial law in December, which has led to the June 3 presidential election. "The PPP's presidential candidate, Kim Moon-soo, has refused to clearly distance himself from the ringleader of the insurrection, so it is up to the people to interpret what that means," Lee said.

Polls show that Lee maintained a solid lead over Kim for the upcoming election. Lee reiterated his commitment to achieving national unity and economic recovery if elected. "I will personally purchase a 100 million won (US$73,099) fund in the stock market to demonstrate my confidence," Lee said.

He also vowed to thoroughly address the stock manipulation allegations involving Yoon's wife, Kim Keon Hee, as part of efforts to restore confidence in the stock market.
