Daejeon: Hanwha Eagles pitcher Moon Dong-ju has been recognized as the MVP of the postseason series after delivering impactful relief performances in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO). Over the past three years, Moon has honed his skills as a reliable starting pitcher, a transformation that culminated in his recent accolade.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Moon's MVP award came on the heels of the Eagles' decisive 11-2 victory over the Samsung Lions in Game 5 of their best-of-five series, held at the Daejeon Hanwha Life Ballpark. This victory secured the Eagles' place in the forthcoming Korean Series against the LG Twins, commencing on Sunday.
Moon distinguished himself with two notable relief appearances during the series. He threw 58 pitches over four scoreless innings to achieve his first postseason win earlier in the week. His postseason debut was equally impressive, with two shutout innings and four strikeouts. Despite strong performances from several Eagles batters, Moon received 61 out of 87 media votes for the series MVP title.
Moon, who was named Player of the Game for both of his outings, expressed his aspirations for the series MVP award. Reflecting on his bullpen experience, he noted that previous relief appearances were pre-planned, unlike the current series where circumstances aligned in his favor.
During the regular season, Moon faced challenges against the LG Twins, with a 7.04 ERA across four appearances. His last encounter resulted in six runs on eight hits in less than an inning. However, Moon is eager for a chance to redeem himself and is motivated to perform against the Twins in the upcoming series.
Eagles manager Kim Kyung-moon confirmed that Moon will return to the rotation for the Korean Series, although it remains undecided whether he will start in Game 1 on Sunday or the subsequent game on Tuesday.
