Seoul: Former Labor Minister Kim Moon-soo on Sunday declared his intention to lead the main opposition People Power Party (PPP). Kim announced his candidacy during a press conference at the party's headquarters, following his recent defeat by President Lee Jae Myung in the June 3 presidential election.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim stated that his decision to run was motivated by a desire to restore the party amid what he describes as a crisis threatening the foundations of the Republic of Korea. He emphasized the need to regain public trust and expressed his commitment to halting the current administration's policies and reforming the PPP to better lead the liberal democratic Republic of Korea.
The PPP is set to elect its new leader at a national convention scheduled for August 22.
