Seoul: Spanish football giants FC Barcelona will visit South Korea this summer for two exhibition matches against K League clubs, a South Korean promotion company said Monday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Seoul-based D-Drive Corp. announced that Barcelona will travel to South Korea as part of their offseason Asian tour in early August. The company had signed an agreement on the Asian trip with Barcelona President Joan Laporta in November last year and recently finalized the match schedule.
FC Seoul is expected to be the opponent for the first match, while the second match could feature either Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors or Suwon Samsung Bluewings, as per D-Drive. FC Barcelona previously visited South Korea in 2004 and 2010, with the latter featuring a match against the K League All-Star team where Lionel Messi scored twice in a 5-2 victory.
D-Drive stated that Joan Laporta will accompany the club on the Asian tour, marking his first visit to South Korea. FC Barcelona is renowned for its success in football, having won a record 78 domestic trophies, including 27 La Liga titles. They have also achieved significant success internationally, with five UEFA Champions League titles and three FIFA Club World Cup titles.
