Finance Chief Discusses Economic Ties, Cooperation in Future Industries with Japanese Envoy


Seoul: Finance Minister Koo Yun-cheol met with Japanese Ambassador to South Korea Koichi Mizushima on Tuesday to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation and proposed expanding collaboration in future industries, the finance ministry said.



According to Yonhap News Agency, during the meeting held at the government complex in Seoul, Koo expressed hope that the two countries would engage in more frequent dialogue and exchanges in light of the summit between President Lee Jae Myung and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Aug. 23.



The finance chief stated that the summit served as a meaningful step toward expanding cooperation in future-oriented industries. He proposed more cooperation in emerging sectors, such as hydrogen energy and artificial intelligence (AI).



Koo further asked for Japan’s cooperation for South Korea’s successful hosting of the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Gyeongju, the ministry said.



In response, Mizushima expressed hope for continued dialogue between the two nations to further strengthen coordination on global issues and in the international community.
