South korea: South Korea's Finance Minister Koo Yun-cheol has attended a meeting of finance chiefs of the Group of 20 (G20) countries to discuss international efforts to help Africa and tackle global finance issues, Koo's office said Friday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Koo participated in the annual meetings of G20 finance ministers and gatherings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank held in Washington this week, as stated in a press release from the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
In the meetings, Koo discussed the Africa Engagement Framework proposed by the Republic of South Africa, the host nation of this year's G20 finance ministers' meeting. The Africa Engagement Framework aims to foster international cooperation to help the continent realize its high growth potential backed by abundant resources and increasing population.
Koo expressed Korea's support for the plan, noting that Seoul will actively interact with African countries.
Meanwhile, Koo also met with the chief executive officer of global financial market services provider EuroClear Group, Valerie Urbain, to convey gratitude for supporting Korea's planned inclusion in the World Government Bond Index next year and discuss measures to promote investment in Korean government bonds, according to the ministry.
