Seoul: The finance ministry on Tuesday launched a specialized training program in artificial intelligence (AI) for its officials, in line with the government's goal of becoming a global AI powerhouse.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the three-month program, led by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), aims to foster what the ministry calls "AI warriors of the Ministry of Economy and Finance," capable of leading the country's AI transformation.
The initiative is part of the Lee Jae Myung administration's five-year economic development blueprint, which emphasizes integrating AI across the private and public sectors to build what it describes as a "super-innovation economy."
"AI competency is now a basic qualification for public officials who will drive the realization of a super-innovation economy," Finance Minister Koo Yun-cheol said.
The program is designed as a practical and hands-on curriculum, the ministry said, adding that training will include collaborative projects to ensure participants can effectively use AI in policymaking.
