Seoul: Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul extended condolences to the victims of a deadly plane crash at Muan International Airport, including two Thai nationals, on Monday. The crash resulted in the loss of 181 lives, sparing only two flight attendants.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Minister Cho expressed his profound sadness over the tragedy through a message on the social media platform X. He conveyed his deepest sympathies to the families affected by the accident, highlighting the loss of the two Thai nationals. The foreign ministry is collaborating with diplomatic missions in Thailand and South Korea to provide the necessary support to the bereaved families.
Some family members of the Thai victims were reportedly traveling to Seoul on Monday. The Jeju Air flight, originating from Bangkok, crashed into the outer wall of Muan Airport, located approximately 290 kilometers southwest of Seoul. The incident occurred during a belly landing attempt, suspected to be caused by a bird strike.
Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra also conveyed her condolences on X. She has instructed Thailand's foreign ministry to aid the families affected by the crash.
