San francisco: Lee Jung-hoo of the San Francisco Giants has pulled into a tie for second place in the National League (NL) with his sixth triple of the season. The three-bagger was Lee's only hit in four at-bats in the Giants' 12-5 loss to the Miami Marlins at Oracle Park in San Francisco on Thursday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, batting fifth, Lee led off the bottom of the fourth inning by hitting a line drive toward right fielder Jesus Sanchez. Sanchez failed to make a diving grab or at least keep the ball in front of him, allowing the ball to roll toward the warning track. Lee sped around the bases for a stand-up triple, showcasing his agility and speed.
With six triples, Lee is leading the Giants and is tied with Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers for second in the NL, just three behind Corbin Carroll of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Lee then came home on a single by Willy Adames, narrowing the Marlins' lead to 5-3. The Giants managed to score two more runs in the same inning to tie the game at 5-5. However, the Marlins pulled away with three runs in the fifth and four more in the eighth to secure their victory.
Lee also leads the Giants with 17 doubles and ranks second on the team with 74 hits and 46 runs scored. For the season, Lee is batting .252/.322/.412 in 78 games. In 21 games so far in June, Lee has a .171/.314/.329 line with zero home runs and three RBIs, indicating a recent slump in his performance.
Also on Thursday, the Dodgers defeated the Colorado Rockies 3-1 at Coors Field in Denver. Their South Korean utility man Kim Hye-seong was on the bench, despite batting an impressive .372/.410/.538 in 35 games. Kim has been playing sparingly, with his most recent start occurring on Sunday.
