Giants Outfielder Lee Jung-hoo Aims for Consistency After Challenging Season

San francisco: Giants outfielder Lee Jung-hoo is determined to improve his consistency following a season filled with highs and lows in Major League Baseball (MLB). After completing the Giants’ regular season, Lee returned home Tuesday evening, expressing his commitment to maintaining a steady performance in the coming year.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee’s recent season marked a significant improvement in his career despite its challenges. Having played only 37 games as a rookie in 2024 due to a shoulder injury, Lee managed to participate in 150 out of 162 games this year. He achieved career highs in several categories, including a .266/.327/.407 line, 149 hits, eight home runs, 55 RBIs, 47 walks, and 10 steals. Notably, he led the Giants with 31 doubles and 12 triples, ranking third in MLB for triples.

The 27-year-old outfielder began the season with a strong performance, batting .319/.375/.526 through April but experienced a downturn with a .231 average in May and .143 in June. He rebounded in the following months, posting averages of .278 in July, .300 in August, and .315 in September. Lee acknowledged the fluctuations in his performance, stating, “I don’t think I’ve ever had so many ups and downs in a season like this year.”

Despite challenges, Lee found comfort in adapting to life in America and building closer relationships with his teammates and staff, contributing to his improved performance. Upon his return to South Korea, he emphasized his commitment to training and preparation for the next season, aiming to make it a pivotal year in his baseball career.

Reflecting on his season, Lee expressed gratitude towards his teammates for their support during difficult times. “I had a strong start but didn’t have as good of a finish,” he admitted. His focus now is on achieving a consistent high-level performance next season, marking his 10th year in professional baseball.

Lee also commented on the recent management change in the Giants, as the team parted ways with manager Bob Melvin. While expressing disappointment over the team’s performance, Lee praised Melvin’s leadership and vowed to prepare diligently for the new season under a new manager.
