Seoul: GM Korea Co., the South Korean unit of General Motors Co., reported a 7.6 percent decline in its sales for June compared to the previous year, citing a slowdown in both domestic and international demand. The company announced that it sold 45,165 vehicles last month, a decrease from the 48,860 units sold during the same period last year.
According to Yonhap News Agency, domestic sales experienced a significant drop, plunging 32.7 percent year-on-year to 1,279 units from the previous 1,901 units. Exports also saw a decline, slipping 6.5 percent to 43,886 units from 46,959 units.
In the first half of the year, from January to June, GM Korea's total sales decreased by 7.4 percent, with 249,355 units sold compared to 269,422 units in the same timeframe the previous year. This downturn comes as the company continues to implement its two-track strategy, offering both domestically assembled and imported vehicles in the South Korean market, which is Asia's fourth-largest economy.
The company's current lineup includes two locally assembled models, the Trailblazer SUV and the Trax Crossover, alongside two imported models, the Colorado pickup and the GMC Sierra Denali pickup.
