Government Designates Additional Southeastern Counties as Special Disaster Zones Following Wildfires

Seoul: The government has designated the southeastern counties of Ulju, Uiseong, and Hadong as special disaster zones as wildfires continue to affect the region. This decision comes amidst ongoing efforts, now in their fourth day, to combat the fires that have severely impacted these areas.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Sancheong County had already been declared a special disaster zone on Saturday prior to this latest announcement. The special disaster zone designation allows affected areas to receive comprehensive support from the government. The wildfires have forced the evacuation of over 2,700 residents, underscoring the urgency of the situation.

Acting President Han Duck-soo emphasized the importance of ensuring safety for those involved in firefighting efforts and addressing the challenges faced by displaced residents. He pledged full governmental support for recovery once the fires are completely extinguished.
