Seoul: Acting President Han Duck-soo has announced the designation of four additional jurisdictions as special disaster zones in response to widespread damage caused by ongoing wildfires in the southeastern region, as reported by the interior ministry.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the newly designated areas include Andong, Cheongsong, Yeongyang, and Yeongdeok in North Gyeongsang Province. These areas will now receive government support aimed at facilitating damage recovery and providing relief to affected victims. This expansion of special disaster zones is part of the government's efforts to manage the aftermath of the wildfires effectively.
The government plans to conduct a comprehensive damage survey to outline detailed support measures. Acting President Han emphasized the government's commitment to repairing the damage swiftly, pledging both administrative and financial assistance. "The wildfires have caused not only casualties but large-scale damage to homes and infrastructure, so we will make every effort to swiftly repair the damage without sparing administrative and financial assistance," Han stated.
Previously, the government had declared Sancheong in South Gyeongsang Province, Ulju in Ulsan, Uiseong in North Gyeongsang Province, and Hadong in South Gyeongsang Province as special disaster zones. The recent additions underscore the extensive impact of the wildfires and the need for robust response measures.
