Seoul: The government announced plans on Wednesday to deploy all available transportation-related resources nationwide in response to a looming strike by unionized railway workers set to begin this week. This initiative aims to mitigate the inconvenience anticipated from the indefinite general strike by Korea Railroad Corp. workers, who are demanding higher wages and an increased workforce.According to Yonhap News Agency, the strike, if it proceeds as planned, will significantly impact the operations of high-speed KTX trains, regular train services across the country, and subway services in the capital region. In light of this, Park Sang-woo, the minister of land, infrastructure and transport, has directed authorities to optimize the use of express and inter-city buses, taxis, and domestic flights to reduce public disruption.The ministry further stated its intention to deploy additional personnel to manage KTX and metropolitan subway services during peak hours to better accommodate commuters. Additionally , the government plans to implement a 24-hour joint transportation task force in collaboration with relevant agencies and local governments to effectively address the challenges posed by the railway strike until it concludes.
