Government to Accelerate Legislation for Key Policy Tasks Under Lee Administration

Seoul: The government has outlined detailed plans to implement a range of priority policy tasks during President Lee Jae Myung’s five-year tenure, concentrating on legislation pertinent to citizens’ livelihoods and economic matters, officials reported on Wednesday. The Ministry of Government Legislation revealed these plans following a Cabinet meeting led by President Lee, which confirmed 123 critical policy tasks to be pursued during his administration on Tuesday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the outlined strategy necessitates the submission of 110 bills to the National Assembly, alongside the revision of 66 subordinate statutes by the end of the year. Key statutes slated for revision include the enforcement decrees of the act on monitoring climate change and the act on the management of disasters and safety.

The ministry also intends to facilitate the prompt submission of bills to ensure adequate discussion and deliberation in parliament. This encompasses legislation aimed at reducing working hours, with incentives such as tax credits for companies that implement a 4.5-day workweek.

Moreover, the government plans to present bills to parliament that align with its principal policy objectives, including integrating medical support for veterans, enhancing specialized manufacturing companies, and designating defense-related advanced strategic industries.

The ministry emphasized its commitment to prioritizing legislation that impacts people’s livelihoods and the economy, with the ambition of passing these bills during the regular session of the National Assembly.
