Gov’t Approves Revised Bills to Extend Probes into Ex-President Yoon’s Allegations

Seoul: The government has given the green light to three revised bills aimed at extending special counsel investigations into corruption allegations involving former President Yoon Suk Yeol and his spouse. This decision was made during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Kim Min-seok.According to Yonhap News Agency, the National Assembly passed these bills earlier this month. Following the Cabinet's approval, they will now be forwarded to President Lee Jae Myung for signing and promulgation. The revisions propose an extension of up to 30 days for the three ongoing special counsel investigations and call for an increase in the number of assistant special counsels and other personnel on the investigative teams.The investigations are focused on three key areas: Yoon's unsuccessful attempt to impose martial law, various corruption allegations involving his wife, Kim Keon Hee, and the alleged cover-up concerning a Marine's death in 2023.
