Hanwha Aerospace to Expand K9 Howitzer Supply to Norway with New Deal

Seoul: Hanwha Aerospace Co. is on the verge of securing an additional contract with Norway to deliver 24 K9 self-propelled howitzers, as reported by defense industry sources on Thursday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the South Korean defense conglomerate is anticipated to conclude the agreement shortly with the Norwegian Defense Materiel Agency. Although details about the deal remain undisclosed, a company representative mentioned, “We cannot provide specifics regarding the contract at this time.”

Hanwha Aerospace initially entered into a contract in 2017 to supply Norway with 24 K9 howitzers and six K10 ammunition resupply vehicles, in a package deal valued at 245.2 billion won (approximately US$176.9 million). The K9 howitzer has since gained traction globally, being adopted by countries such as Turkey, Poland, Finland, Estonia, Egypt, India, Australia, and Romania.

Recently, Hanwha signed a US$250 million agreement with Vietnam to supply 20 K9s, marking the howitzer’s inaugural export to Southeast Asia.
