Seoul: HD Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co. announced it has secured a 222.4 billion-won (US$159 million) order to construct three feeder container ships for a shipping company in the Oceania region. The company plans to deliver one 1,800 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) container ship and two 2,800-TEU vessels by October 2027 to the undisclosed client, as mentioned in their press release.
According to Yonhap News Agency, feeder container ships, which typically have a capacity of less than 3,000 TEUs, are medium-sized vessels designed to transport intermodal containers between smaller ports and larger hub ports. This order underscores HD Hyundai Mipo’s standing in the shipbuilding industry and its capability to fulfill significant contracts.
HD Hyundai Mipo is part of HD Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering Co. (HD KSOE), which is itself a subholding company of HD Hyundai. The other two affiliates of HD KSOE are HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. and HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co.
