Seoul: HD Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering Co. announced on Tuesday that it has secured a significant order valued at 1.4 trillion won (US$1.03 billion) to construct four liquefied natural gas (LNG) container ships for a shipping company based in Oceania.
According to Yonhap News Agency, these vessels are set to be built at HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co.'s shipyard, a unit of HD Korea Shipbuilding. The delivery of these vessels is scheduled for the second half of 2028, as per the company's filing.
This latest contract brings the total orders secured by HD Korea Shipbuilding this year to 76 vessels, collectively worth $10.5 billion. The company has thus achieved 58.2 percent of its annual order target of $18.05 billion.
HD Korea Shipbuilding operates as a subholding company under HD Hyundai Co., previously known as Hyundai Heavy Industries Holdings. The company has three affiliates, which include HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. and HD Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co.
