Hyundai and Kia Collaborate with Seoul National University for Advanced Smart Factory Technologies

Seoul: Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Corp. announced a partnership with Seoul National University's Institute of Advanced Machines and Design to jointly develop key technologies for software-defined factories (SDFs). Hyundai Motor Group's E-FOREST Center, responsible for creating smart factory solutions for the automotive giants, signed a memorandum of understanding with the institute on Tuesday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, this collaboration will focus on research and development of essential SDF technologies, such as manufacturing artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models (LLMs) tailored for manufacturing processes. E-FOREST, Hyundai and Kia's smart factory brand, aims to revolutionize manufacturing systems by seamlessly connecting all processes to enhance customer value.

The automotive companies are looking to implement advanced automation through AI and robotics, while also incorporating human-centric smart technologies to foster innovation in manufacturing. "The collaboration with Seoul National University is expected to strengthen our competitiveness in core smart factory technologies and accelerate global manufacturing innovation," stated Lee Jae-min, vice president and head of E-FOREST Center.
