Seoul: Shin Jai-won, chief executive officer (CEO) of Supernal, the advanced air mobility (AAM) division of Hyundai Motor Group, has stepped down and taken on an advisory role within the South Korean automotive giant, the group said Thursday. The announcement marks a significant leadership change at Supernal, which is Hyundai's U.S.-based subsidiary focused on developing air mobility solutions.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Shin Jai-won had completed laying the foundation for technology development for the company, and Hyundai stated that a new leadership was required to accelerate commercialization efforts. Shin joined Hyundai Motor Group in 2019 and has been instrumental in steering its AAM business. He had served as CEO of Supernal since its establishment in 2021.
In an internal email to employees, Shin expressed that Hyundai Motor Group's AAM business is transitioning into a new phase, necessitating fresh leadership to effectively carry out its future objectives. Until a new head is appointed for Supernal, David Rottblatt, currently the head of business development at the AAM company, will step in as interim chief operating officer (COO) to oversee operations, the group confirmed.
