Hyundai Steel Obtains U.S. Certification for Nuclear Reactor Parts

Seoul: Hyundai Steel Co., South Korea's second-biggest steelmaker, announced its achievement of becoming the first South Korean steelmaker to secure U.S. quality certification for its products used in nuclear reactors. This milestone opens new opportunities for the company in the nuclear reactor market across the United States and other regions.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Hyundai Steel has been awarded the quality system certificates for nuclear material organization (QSC) from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) for its steel products. This certification signifies global recognition of the company's product quality, as these products have met the stringent quality standards set by the global nuclear industry.

The certified products include reinforced bars (rebars), section steel, and thick steel plate products, marking a first for a Korean steelmaker in obtaining the ASME QSC certification. Hyundai Steel anticipates that this U.S. certification will facilitate securing orders to supply its products to small modular reactors (SMRs) in the United States and other markets.
