Inter-Korean Human Exchanges Halt for Fourth Consecutive Year

Seoul: Human exchanges between South and North Korea remained at zero last year, marking the fourth consecutive year without any inter-Korean travel, as revealed by a unification policy paper.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the 2025 Unification White Paper published by the unification ministry highlighted that the last recorded human exchanges between the two Koreas occurred in 2000, when 297 individuals traveled from South Korea to the North.

The report also noted a complete halt in cross-border trade between the two nations last year, which marked the second consecutive year without such economic activity. Additionally, the paper indicated that humanitarian assistance from South Korea to the North, both governmental and private, fell to zero for the first time since aid efforts began in 1995.
