Seoul: The anti-corruption agency investigating the case of impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol is on the brink of filing for an arrest warrant regarding his attempted martial law, as confirmed by an official on Friday. The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) is expected to submit the warrant to the Seoul Western District Court before the expiration of a 48-hour deadline Friday night.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the decision by the CIO follows Yoon's repeated refusal to appear for questioning over his failed martial law attempt, marking the third day of his detention. The CIO had summoned him for further questioning at 10 a.m. after his absence the previous day, which he attributed to health issues.
Yoon's attorney, Seok Dong-hyeon, who is also a longtime friend, told Yonhap News Agency, "The president will not appear at the CIO today." He added that Yoon had already expressed his basic stance during initial questioning and saw no need for further interrogation.
Yoon has been held at a detention center since Wednesday night after being apprehended at his residence. He was brought to the CIO office in Gwacheon, located just south of Seoul, where he underwent more than 10 hours of questioning. Yoon's request for a legal review of his detention by the Seoul Central District Court was dismissed Thursday night, ensuring his continued custody.
