IU Donates 200 Million Won to Mark Debut Anniversary


Seoul: Singer-actor IU has donated 200 million won (US$144,393) to charities to commemorate the 17th anniversary of her debut, her agency announced.



According to Yonhap News Agency, the donation was made in the name of her fandom “Uaena” and is designated to assist various vulnerable groups, including children with incurable diseases, individuals with disabilities, young adults preparing for independence, and elderly citizens living alone.



Edam Entertainment revealed that 50 million won was allocated to each of several charities, including the Korea Foundation for Persons with Disabilities. The 32-year-old artist has consistently made donations in her fandom’s name on significant occasions like her debut anniversary, birthday, and year-end holidays.



In March, IU contributed 200 million won to aid victims of large-scale wildfires in the Gyeongsang region. On Children’s Day in May, she provided 150 million won to support programs for children and youths. Additionally, she celebrated her birthday in the same month with another 200 million won donation to assist vulnerable groups.
