Seoul: Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) chairman Gen. Jin Yong-sung and U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) Commander Gen. Xavier Brunson visited a front-line military unit to inspect readiness based on the combined defense posture, the JCS reported.
According to Yonhap News Agency, this marked the first military inspection by Gen. Jin since his inauguration earlier this week, as well as his first joint inspection with Gen. Brunson. Brunson also serves as a commander of the South Korea-U.S. Combined Forces Command and the U.N. Command, which oversees the Korean War armistice.
The visit included inspections of general posts and outposts in an Army unit located just south of the western border with North Korea. The two commanders focused on the operational environment, major facilities, and equipment.
During the visits, Gen. Jin emphasized the need for “watertight” defense operations and urged for a firm operational posture capable of “responding decisively against enemy provocations under the combined defense posture,” the JCS stated.
Gen. Brunson congratulated Gen. Jin on his new role and highlighted that the ROK-U.S. Alliance is a significant asymmetric advantage on the Peninsula. The U.S. commander also emphasized that their combined capabilities deter aggression, safeguard the armistice, and ensure peace and stability.
The commanders reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace and capabilities based on the alliance. Both sides agreed that the alliance’s combined capabilities deter threats, uphold the armistice agreement, and ensure peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, as noted by the JCS.
