Seoul: The Korea Enterprises Federation (KEF) has urged the enactment of a special law to introduce more flexible work hours for research and development (R and D) in the semiconductor sector. This call for legislative change aims to address issues arising from the rigid enforcement of the existing 52-hour workweek system, which the KEF identifies as a significant factor contributing to the ongoing semiconductor crisis.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the KEF highlighted the urgent need for regulatory improvements in a statement released on Friday. The organization proposed easing the requirements for special extended work approvals for R and D activities, suggesting an extension of the maximum period allowed for extended work hours from three to six months. This move is seen as essential to bolster the semiconductor industry's capabilities and global competitiveness.
