Seoul: The veterans ministry has announced that the late U.S. Air Force Maj. Charles J. Loring Jr. will be recognized as next month's Korean War hero. This designation honors his sacrifice during the 1950-53 conflict.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Maj. Loring sacrificed his life by flying his damaged aircraft into an enemy camp during a close air support and bombing mission for U.N. forces in 1952. His actions took place at the height of the war and have been acknowledged for their significant impact.
South Korea posthumously awarded Maj. Loring the Taegeuk Order of Military Merit in 2024, which is the nation's highest military honor. In addition, the U.S. government recognized his bravery by awarding him the Medal of Honor in 1954.
