Seoul: President Lee Jae-myung has nominated Rep. Kim Min-seok, a close confidant and former student activist-turned-lawmaker, as his choice for prime minister. This marks Lee's first personnel announcement since assuming office earlier in the day.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim is a four-term lawmaker from the Democratic Party (DP) who played a significant role in Lee's presidential campaign. Lee emphasized Kim's extensive legislative experience and strong policy expertise, stating that Kim is well-suited to lead the nation through challenges and work towards economic recovery. The nomination of Kim as prime minister will require parliamentary approval following a confirmation hearing.
In addition to the prime minister nomination, President Lee appointed DP lawmaker Kang Hoon-sik as his chief of staff. Veteran diplomat Wi Sung-lac has been named as the national security adviser, while former Unification Minister Lee Jong-seok has been nominated to lead the National Intelligence Service.
