Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung on Sunday appointed vice ministers for education, science, veterans affairs, transport, and small firms, alongside seven vice ministerial-level officials, in a significant government reshuffle, the presidential office announced.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Choi Eun-ok, who previously served as the chief of the office of high education policy at the education ministry, has been appointed as the vice education minister. In the science sector, Lee has appointed Koo Hyuk-chae, the former head of the office of planning and coordination at the Ministry of Science and ICT, as the first vice minister of science.
In the veterans affairs department, Kang Yun-jin, formerly the director general for patriots and veterans associations cooperation, has been promoted to the position of vice minister. Meanwhile, Kang Hee-up, who was the chief of the Metropolitan Transport Commission, has taken the role of the second vice minister of land and transport. Within the SME and start-ups ministry, Roh Yong-seok, previously the head of the office of small and medium enterprises policy, has been promoted to vice minister.
Additionally, President Lee has appointed seven vice ministerial-level officials, which include the minister of government legislation and the chief of the disease control and prevention agency. Among these appointments, Hong So-young, who led the Military Manpower Administration's central regional office, has become the country's first female chief of the agency, marking a historic milestone for the organization.
