Washington: President Lee Jae Myung arrived at the White House on Monday for his high-stakes summit with U.S. President Donald Trump. In their first in-person meeting, Lee is expected to discuss the "modernization" of the decadeslong alliance and economic cooperation, in what could be a major test of the bilateral alliance.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the two leaders will meet in the Oval Office, followed by an expanded session in the Cabinet Room and a working lunch, presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said, expecting the summit to last about two hours. Lee will be joined by his top aides, including presidential chief of staff Kang Hoon-sik, National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac, and chief of staff for policy Kim Yong-beom, along with three other senior officials, Kang said.
The initial part of the Oval Office meeting is set to proceed in front of rolling cameras and reporters as the two leaders are expected to exchange pleasantries and make opening remarks.
