Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung on Tuesday called for efforts to ensure sufficient compensation for those who made extraordinary sacrifices to protect the nation, ahead of the anniversary of the start of the Korean War. Lee made the remarks during a Cabinet meeting on the eve of the 75th anniversary of the 1950-53 Korean War, which ended in a truce, not a peace treaty, renewing calls to build a peace regime on the Korean Peninsula.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee emphasized the importance of reviewing whether adequate compensation and respect are being provided to those who have sacrificed for the Republic of Korea. He questioned the adequacy of support for individuals who have made sacrifices for the broader community, urging a reassessment of compensation and support measures.
President Lee also linked security to economic issues, highlighting the significance of establishing a peace regime on the Korean Peninsula and strengthening security as crucial tasks for the nation. He has shown openness to dialogue with North Korea, emphasizing the role of politics in achieving lasting peace.
Lee remarked on the concept of security, suggesting that true security is achieved by creating peaceful conditions that eliminate the need for conflict. He stated, "While we often equate security with fighting and winning, it is more important to win without fighting."
