Seoul: South Korean teenager Lee Chae-un became the inaugural Asian Winter Games champion in the men's snowboard slopestyle event in China on Saturday. Lee scored 90.00 points for the gold medal in the new Asiad event at Yabuli Ski Resort, some 200 kilometers southeast of the main host city of Harbin. His teammate, Kang Dong-hun, got the bronze with 74.00 points, two full points behind the silver medalist, Liu Haoyu of China.
According to Yonhap News Agency, after three runs each, the highest score became the final score for the snowboarders. Lee posted the top score in the first run with 81.25 points and topped himself and the rest of the field with 90.00 in the third run. Lee, 18, is the 2023 world champion in the halfpipe event, and won gold in the slopestyle at the Winter Youth Olympics last year in South Korea.
This was South Korea's seventh gold medal in all events on Saturday, the first day of the medal race.
