Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung on Wednesday congratulated high jumper Woo Sang-hyeok for winning the silver medal at the world outdoor championships in Tokyo, saying he is “very proud” of the athlete.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee posted a message of congratulation to Woo after he grabbed his second career silver medal at the World Athletics Championships at the National Stadium in Tokyo on Tuesday. In the message, Lee praised Woo as “writing a new chapter in the history of Korean track and field.”

“Despite carrying physical limitations from a childhood traffic accident, Woo has overcome his limits with an indomitable spirit,” he wrote. “Woo’s challenge has given great courage and hope not only to our country but to people around the world.”
